Q. What is the Sport-a-Seat®?

A. The Sport-a-Seat® resembles a cushion that is 18" W, 40" L, and 3.25" H with a carrying handle. Embedded within the foam is a heavy-duty galvanized carbon steel frame with two, 6 position ratcheting hinges. The hinges are off set by two inches, which provides a long and short side. With the longer side down and the back adjusted to any of the 6 positions, the Sport-a-Seat® is great for lounging. With the shorter side down and the back in the full upright position, the Sport-a-Seat® offers independent back support while sitting on elevated surfaces. Your own weight on the bottom supports the back in all 6 positions.

Q. How is the Sport-a-Seat® different from the knock-offs?

A. The Sport-a-Seat® is made in the USA. The knock-offs are made overseas. The cover of the Sport-a-Seat® is made with Sunbrella® marine canvas, which will not fade, and a very sturdy zipper, which will not break easily if at all. The cover of the knock-offs made overseas is an acryllic fabric that is likely to fade, and the zippers tend to break quite easily. The Sport-a-Seat® uses a very high density furniture grade polyurethane foam which maintains its cushion for years. You don't feel the frame through the foam, nor do you bottom out when you're seated. The knock-offs have foam which is not very dense, and you tend to feel the frame as well as the surface on which you're seated after a short period of time depending on your weight. The frame of the Sport-a-Seat® is incredibly sturdy, will hold up to 300 lbs. in each position and has contour bends for back comfort. There is a teflon protector attached to the hinge. The knock-offs have no back contours, are not very sturdy and have no protector attached to the hinge. The knock-offs sometimes less expensive than the Sport-a-Seat®. However, BUYER BEWARE.

Q: Why are we green?

A. The Sport-a-Seat® is made in the USA! As opposed to imitation products made overseas, we don't burn fuel shipping our seats across the ocean. The cover of the Sport-a-Seat® is made from Sunbrella™ canvas. Glen Raven Mills, manufacturer of this fabric, takes returned and left-over scraps of material and reuses them to make new fabrics. The Sport-a-Seat® is made with high quality materials. With proper care, they can last many years. Unlike lesser quality, copycat products they aren't taking up unnecessary space in our landfills.

Q: How to Clean your Sport-a-Seat®?

One of the best ways to keep Sunbrella® marine canvas looking good and to delay deep or vigorous cleanings is to properly maintain the canvas. This can be accomplished by simply brushing off dirt before it becomes embedded in the fabric, wiping up spills as soon as they occur or spot cleaning soon after stains occur using 303 Fabric Cleaner. For more information on deep cleaning see Care and Cleaning of Sunbrella Cover

Q. How to put on the Replacement Cover?

A.:  How to put on new covers.

  1. Remove old cover

  2. Place thin plastic bag (dry cleaner bag does well) over foam

  3. Slide new cover over plastic bag making sure the zipper is on the longer side of the seat

  4. Once cover is on, rip out plastic

  5. Push top of foam into top of cover

  6. Pull both sides of the zipper together (so as not to stress it) and zip

Q. What is the cover made of?

A. Marine grade Sunbrella® canvas, which repels liquids and yet breathes to allow quick drying.

Q. What is the Sunbrella® marine canvas warranty?

A. Sunbrella® marine canvas resists mildew, cleans easily and is UV protected for up to 5 years of constant exposure to the sun.

Q. Will the Sport-a-Seat® float if it falls into the water?

A. Yes it will, for quite a long time. However, it's not intended to be used for flotation. If it falls in the water, you have plenty of time to retrieve your Sport-a-Seat®.

Q. What happens if it gets wet?

A. Sea spray or a wet swimsuit won't hurt the Sport-a-Seat®. Most liquids bead up and run off. If it gets really wet, simply allow to dry in the sun before stowage. The frame of the Sport-a-Seat® is designed to last many years in a marine environment with proper care and storage. We do not suggest that the Sport-a-Seat® is to remain in the open with constant water spray and environmental conditions without rinsing with fresh water,  drying properly and treating the fabric as suggested.

Q. Should I apply a sealer to the canvas cover?

A. We recommend using 303 Fabric Guard about every 3 to 5 years. Sunbrella® canvas breaths very well. Applying a sealer other then 303 may trap moisture inside.

Q. Are there any means of securing the Sport-a-Seat® to the deck of a boat?

A. Some attach a lanyard to the handle. We leave the exterior of the seat free of snaps, grommets or hooks to prevent scratching your decking.

Q. What type of foam is used in the cushion?

A. We use a very high density, high cycle polyurethane upholstery grade foam that completely encases the internal frame.

Q. Why not use closed cell foam?

A. Closed cell foam is hard to sit on, is not flexible enough to resist continued movement over the hinges and will flatten out over a shorter period of time.

Q. What are the frame and hinges made of?

A. A heavy-duty galvanized carbon steel.

Q. Are there any weight restrictions?

A. The Sport-a-Seat® will support a person of up to 300 lbs

Q. Can the seat be folded in half for storing?

A. The best method of storing your Sport-a-Seat® is flat. The cover is made free of snaps, buttons, or grommets to protect your decking or hard wood floors from scratches. You can fold the seat and secure it with a bungee or cord.

Q. Is there a warranty?

A. There is a 5 year warranty from the date of purchase after April 2016 for the internal frame and hinges. The hinges and frame will perform for many years with proper care and use.

Q. Is there a return and refund policy?

A. You may return your purchase within 30 days of purchase.  To be eligible for a return, the item must be unused and in the same condition that it was received. The item must be in the original packaging.  The item needs to have a receipt or proof of purchase included.  Once we receive the item, we will inspect and notify you that we have received your returned item. We will notify you on the status of your refund after inspecting the item. If the refund is approved, we will initiate a refund to your credit card (or original method of payment). The customer is responsible for return shipping costs. Shipping costs are non-refundable.  There will be a $25 restocking fee per seat returned. ***Personalized items cannot be returned or refunded.

Q. Is there any special care that should be taken when using the Sport-a-Seat® ?

A. Don't use your Sport-a-Seat® on an abrasive surface such as directly on cement. The cover is sturdy canvas but will scratch. If you're going to sit on cement, put a towel down first. Also, do not use the Sport-a-Seat® near open flame or excessive heat. AVOID USE AS A ROCKER,  as this will cause the fabric to wear prematurely, and on elevated surfaces without a back barrier, it may tip backwards. Sport-a-Seat®  assumes no liability for improper use of this product.
