Q. What is the Sport a Seat?
A. The Sport a Seat resembles a cushion that is 18" W, 40" L, and 3.25" H with a carrying handle. Embedded within the foam is a heavy-duty galvanized carbon steel frame with two, 6 position ratcheting hinges. The hinges are off set by two inches, which provides a long and short side. With the longer side down and the back adjusted to any of the 6 positions, the Sport a Seat is great for lounging. With the shorter side down and the back in the full upright position, the Sport a Seat offers independent back support while sitting on elevated surfaces. Your own weight on the bottom supports the back in all 6 positions.

Q. How is the Sport-a-Seat different from the knock-offs?
A. The Sport-a-Seat is made in the USA.  The knock-offs are made in China. The cover of the Sport-a-Seat is made with Sunbrella fabric, which will not fade, and a very sturdy zipper, which will not break easily if at all.  The cover of the knock-offs made in China  is an acryllic fabric that is likely to fade, and the zippers tend to beak quite easily.  The Sport-a-Seat uses a very high density polyurethane foam which maintains its cushion for years.  You don't feel the frame through the foam, nor do you bottom out when you're seated.  The knock-offs from China have foam which is not very dense, and you tend to feel the frame as well as the surface on which you're seated after a short period of time depending on your weight. The frame of the Sport-a-Seat is incredibly sturdy,  will hold up to 350# in each position and has contour bends for back comfort. There is a teflon protector attached to the hinge. The knock-offs from China have no back contours, are definitely not very sturdy and have no protector attached to the hinge. The knock-offs from China are sometimes less expensive than the Sport-a-Seat. However, BUYER BEWARE.

Q. What is the cover made of and how will it hold up?
A. Marine grade Sunbrella canvas, which repels liquids and yet breathes to allow quick drying. This fabric resists mildew, cleans easily and is UV protected for up to 5 years of constant exposure to the sun.

Q. Is the cover removable for cleaning?
A. The cover is machine washable, however removing the cover is usually unnecessary for cleaning. Follow the simple cleaning instructions attached to each seat.

Q. Will the Sport a Seat float if it falls into the water?
A. Yes it will, for quite a long time. However, it's not intended to be used for floatation. If it falls in the water, you have plenty of time to retrieve your Sport a Seat.

Q. What happens if it gets wet?
A. Sea spray or a wet swimsuit won't hurt the Sport a Seat. Most liquids bead up and run off. If it gets really wet, simply allow to dry in the sun before stowage.

Q. Should I apply a sealer to the canvas cover?
A. We don't recommend it. Sunbrella fabric breaths very well. Applying a sealer may trap moisture inside.

Q. Are there any means of securing the Sport a Seat to the deck of a boat?
A. Some attach a lanyard to the handle. We leave the exterior of the seat free of snaps, grommets or hooks to prevent scratching your decking.

Q. What type of foam is used in the cushion?
A. We use a very high density, high cycle polyurethane upholstery grade foam.

Q. Why not use closed cell foam?
A. Closed cell foam is hard to sit on, is not flexible enough to resist continued movement over the hinges and will flatten out over a shorter period of time.

Q. What are the frame and hinges made of?
A. A heavy-duty galvanized carbon steel frame.

Q. Are there any weight restrictions?
A. The Sport a Seat will support a person of up to 300 lbs.

Q. Can the seat be folded in half for storing?
A. The best method of storing your Sport a Seat is flat. The cover is made free of snaps, buttons, or grommets to protect your decking or hard wood floors from scratches. You can fold the seat and secure it with a bungee or cord.

Q. Is there a warranty?
A. There is a 1 year limited warranty from the date of purchase for the internal frame and hinges.

Q. Is there any special care that should be taken when using the Sport a Seat?
A. Don't use your Sport a Seat on an abrasive surface such as directly on cement. The cover is sturdy canvas but will scratch. If you're going to sit on cement, put a towel down first. Also, do not use the Sport a Seat near open flame or excessive heat. Avoid use as a rocker, especially on elevated surfaces without a back barrier, as it may tip backwards.

Q. How do you Ship?
A. The Sport-A-Seat is shipped via FedEx from Connecticut. Because the size of the box is considered oversized, 1-2 seats will ship at the 33 lb. rate, and 4-7 seats will ship at the 70 lb. rate. Orders shipped to Alaska, Hawaii, US Virgin Islands, and Canada may contain 1-2 seats per box and are shipped via U.S. Mail. Accessories are shipped via U.S. Mail as well.

Q. How heavy is the Sport a Seat?
A. 6.5 lbs.

Q. What is the cost of the Sport a Seat?
A. $99.95, plus shipping and handling.
